Titled Winning the War of Ideas, this event will be an evening of discussion between some of the most popular right-wing voices on the internet, Sam Harris and Jordan Peterson. British journalist Douglas Murray will be playing referee, and where necessary, interlocutor.
Sam Harris is an American neuroscientist and author who discusses philosophical and political issues, and is also consistent critic of religions, in particular Islam. His podcast, Waking Up, is one of the most popular in the English-speaking world.
Jordan Peterson is Canadian psychology professor who gained a large following through YouTube before becoming an avatar of free speech advocates when he objected to the Canadian government Bill C-16 which would compel people to refer to others by their preferred pronouns.
Peterson's most recently published book, 12 Rules For Life: An Antidote to Chaos immediately topped the New York Times best-seller list upon its release, and confirmed his position as the chief spokesperson for right-wing and conservative movements in North America and the world.
Douglas Murray is associate editor of The Spectator magazine, typically the bastion of British conservatism, as well as the author of books like Neoconservatism: Why We Need It, and The Strange Death of Europe: Immigration, Identity, Islam.
All three will debate fiercely the ways in which their wellbeing is endangered on a daily basis by constraints on their free speech, and how their ideas of how the world should be are threatened by people who don’t conform with those ideas. After an hour and a half of debate there will be an hour-long questions and answers session with the audience
