Scattery Island

During the summer months, hop on a boat from Kilrush Marina to Slattery Island and take in stunning views of some of Ireland’s most outstanding historical sites, from the remains of the island village ‘The Street’, to the holy well said to have healing qualities. Wander around the impressive 6th Century monastic settlement founded by St Senan, which has survived several vicious Viking attacks. Be left in awe by the ruins of O’Cahane castle, an Elizabethan tower house built in the 16th Century, as well as its 18th Century battery which was built in defence against French invasions. Complete the unforgettable experience with a free guided tour at the visitor centre before returning to the mainland.
