The Rough Guide has called this annual event "Ireland's longest running and greatest gourmet extravaganza" in their list of 50 Things to Do Before You Die, so what are you waiting for?

Each year in September, Galway City celebrates the Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival, the most internationally recognised Irish festival after St. Patrick’s Day and the world’s longest-running oyster festival.

Throughout the Irish food festival, there will lots of tantalising events for all to enjoy, from seafood trails and oyster opening (shucking) championships like The Oyster ‘Olympics’ and World Oyster Opening Championship to foodie talks and tasting events in some of Galway’s best restaurants.

Have fun in the Festival Marquee, live it up at the Mardi Gras-style gala event, and, of course, enjoy a range of family activities, live music, cooking demonstrations and more.

Established in 1954, The Galway International Oyster & Seafood Festival has welcomed more than half a million visitors and consumed more than three million oysters – all washed down with champagne and stout whilst listening to some of the best musicians in Ireland.
