See what Ireland has in store for you
No visit to the northwest is complete without a trip on the Rose of Innisfree tour boat. Sail around the isle of Innisfree, situated on one of Ireland's most beautiful lakes, Lough Gill, on the Sligo and Leitrim border. Innisfree was the place that inspired W.B. Yeats to write Ireland's most popular poem. Depart from the 17th-century Parkes Castle and take a leisurely cruise across Lough Gill, surrounded by outstanding natural beauty and steeped in myth and legend. Tea, coffee, home baking, snacks, and a full bar service are available on board while the skipper, George McGoldrick, recites tales of folklore, history, and poetry associated with the area and one of Ireland’s most famous sons, W.B. Yeats. Lough Gill's great diversity of geology, archaeology, history, and scenery will provide you with permanent memories. Many famous dates and personalities in Irish history, such as Queen Maeb of Connaught, the O'Rourke's of Breffni, the Norman Invasion, Sligo Abbey, Plantation Castle, and the 1916 Easter Rising are all associated with Lough Gill. Further places of interest include Church Island, Dooney Rock, and Slish Wood.
