Almost exactly a year on from his last visit, the shamanic musical nomad and one-time frontman of the legendary Krautrock group Can, Damo Suzuki, is back in Dublin and back in The Grand Social.

Originally hailing from Japan, Suzuki moved to Europe in his late teens and travelled around – including a first visit to Ireland – before settling in Germany since the late 1960s. He sang with Can between 1970 and 1974 on stand-out albums like Tago Mago, Ege Bamyasi, and Future Days, spouting mystical, improvised lyrics that transcended language.

Since 1983, he has toured frequently, leading what is known as Damo Suzuki’s Network, wherein he teams up with local musicians – referred to Sound Carriers – wherever he goes to perform improvised musical shows.

On this particular visit, Jimmy Eadie and Brian Mooney formerly of The Idiots, DJ Poppy Lloyd, clarinettist and saxophonist Seán Mac Erlaine, guitarist and composer Matthew Nolan of 3epkano, drummer Bryan O’Connell, and producer Steve Shannon will be amongst the revolving cast providing Damo with the grooves he needs to thrive on.

The music is freewheeling and spectacular and the vibes are always golden, so make sure to pay a visit to Damo Suzuki.
