Imecofarm, Islandmcgrath, Clarecastle, Clare, Republic of Ireland
Imecofarm, the first renewable energy and eco centre in Ireland, is an idyllic place to visit and learn about wildlife, nature, renewable energy and eco crafts. It is situated off the M18, near the village of Clarecastle, County Clare.
Imecofarm is set in 100 acres of peaceful countryside, along the Fergus river estuary.
Visitors can walk and enjoy over 1.5km of farm, forest and river trails. Dotted along the route are play areas, wildlife and friendly animals such as the ponies, Charlie and Fudge. Or why not fly a kite, try butterfly-catching or use the binoculars provided to watch the Shannon estuary birdlife.
Imecofarm is a visitor farm with a difference as adults, groups, school tours and children alike can learn in a fun way about recycling, growing vegetables in a family allotment and even how to harvest rainwater or build their own wind turbine.
These topics are also the basis for regular on-site workshops.
Indoor facilities include a coffee shop, another children's play area, displays of renewable energy sources and a historic collection of horse-drawn implements and vintage tractors.
