Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, Charlemont House, Parnell Square North, Dublin,
This is the first solo exhibition in Ireland of the work of Scottish artist Rachel Maclean.
This is the first solo exhibition in Ireland of the work of Scottish artist Rachel Maclean. Maclean is a video artist who makes use of green screen technology to create fantastical visual narratives with an instantly recognisable maximal, glossy aesthetic.
Her works parody a number of pop culture tropes like fairy tales, children’s TV, advertising, and YouTube to explore contemporary notions of identity, power dynamics, and consumer desire. Typically Maclean plays all the characters within her narratives, often in extravagant costume.
The exhibition will include the work Spite Your Face which was exhibited at last year’s Venice Biennale. The film uses imagery and storylines from the classic tale of Pinocchio to satirise contemporary society.
