Belfast trio Girls Names will visit Whelan’s just a week after the release of their fourth album, Stains on Silence.
Led by singer and guitarist Cathal Scully, the band formed up north in 2009 but quickly built a healthy following in Dublin. On their earlier releases, the band channeled the sound of pulsating British guitar pop acts of the 1980s like The Smiths, The Cure, and The Associates, but on more recent work they have also drawn on the influence of Italo-pop, Berlin-era Bowie and the industrial sounds of Einstürzende Neubauten.
Stains on Silence builds on the jet black moodiness of their previous record, 2015’s Arms Around A Vision, and doubles down on their Euro-goth sound. Leather jackets at the ready.
