Xylouris White is the somewhat self-explanatory name of the experimental musical duo of George Xylouris and Jim White.

Xylouris White is the somewhat self-explanatory name of the experimental musical duo of George Xylouris and Jim White.

Xylouris, who comes from a family of celebrated Greek folk musicians, sings and plays the laouto, a string instrument similar to a lute or oud. The Australian White, meanwhile, is best known for his drumming with The Dirty Three, but he has also played with countless indie rock, folk, and experimental artists.

Though they have only been playing together since 2014, they have already created three full albums of music that is a beguiling mix of rock, the avant garde, and traditional folk styles. Their thrid album, Mother, was produced by Fugazi’s Guy Picciotto and was released in January of this year.

The duo performed to a rapturous audience in The Workman’s Club last August, so it’s no surprise to see them return to Dublin, and to the larger venue of The Grand Social this May. Special guest on the night is Waterford act The Bonk, whose make music full of repetition and improvisation.

This will be a wild night of musical explorations so strap yourself in for the ride.
