Mike Meyer is a sign painter from a small rural town in Minnesota called Mazeppa. He featured in the acclaimed documentary Sign Painters in 2012, since when he has travelled the world bringing his renowned style to cities around Europe, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
His Dublin workshop takes place over four days, and is completely suitable to beginners and those with some experience.
The first section of the workshop focuses on gothic, casual, and script letter forms, beginning with pencil drawing then developing through personal critiquing and guidance from Meyer into painted lettering.
The second half of the workshop, on the final two days, allows for participants to practice some more advanced techniques like drop shadowing, bevels, cut and roll fades, which will help them explore their own personal aesthetic.
All the equipment needed, as well as a copy of Meyer’s own folding alphabet sheets are provided to participants, so you just need to bring yourself and your sense of creativity.
