See what Ireland has in store for you
Traces of the island's long history dot the landscape. Iron Age promontory forts sit along the cliffs, while the remains of 16th-century strongholds are reminders of the pirates that came and went, including Don Bosco and Granuaile. Elsewhere, you'll find the ruins of a 17th-century barracks that once held rebel priests. The island today is less about fugitive pirates and much more about outdoor activities. Hillwalking and cycling are very popular, as are water-based pastimes including kayaking and sailing. There's also great opportunities for shore angling and seal watching. At night, Inishbofin's creative side comes to life, with many local and visiting musicians coming together for some of the best music sessions you'll find anywhere.
