In the village of Killahan, just 14km north of Tralee in County Kerry, visitors can discover the ruins of a medieval church, formerly known as Tonaknock Abbey. It was constructed in the 7th century for the Canon Regular.
Established in the 12th century, the Abbey of Kyrie Eleison is credited for giving the village of Abbeydorney its name. It was the only Cistercian community in medieval County Kerry, and boasts fine Celtic crosses.
