Love it up in Ireland
As romantic destinations go, few places can match the rugged beauty of the Wild Atlantic Way, the incredible sights of the Causeway Coastal Route, not to mention the rural bliss of an ancient castle hotel, tucked away in the lush green strips of Ireland’s Lakelands.
So yes, we have landscapes made by nature and perfect for love birds…but what else is there for LGBT couples looking take their romance to the next level?
Make it a BIG day out
Not just renowned for their warm welcomes and excellent staff, hotels in Ireland are also wonderful places to hold ceremonies and events, with many already approved as Civil Partnership venues.
Civil ceremonies can be held at Registry Offices all over the island, but for something a little bit more special, many couples opt for a historic, luxury or quirky venue instead.
Fancy a romantic waterside setting? Try the beautiful riverside Ice House in County Mayo; the acclaimed Wineport Lodge on the tranquil banks of Lough Ree in Athlone; or the gorgeous Belle Isle Castle in County Fermanagh.
Bring the open air to your civil ceremony at Brigit’s Garden, which will take you into the heart of Celtic heritage and mythology in Rosscahill, County Galway. With the award-winning gardens as your backdrop, the photo album alone will be rather impressive!
Add some superstar style?
The grounds of Slane Castle have hosted concerts by everyone from David Bowie to Madonna, but the castle here is one of the most historic places to tie the knot, too. Nearby is the Hill of Slane, where Saint Patrick lit his paschal fire, as well as Newgrange, an incredible passage tomb that predates the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt
Or how about the incredible Mussenden Temple, perched on the edge of a cliff in County Londonderry? Modelled on the Temple of Vesta in Italy, this is the kind of location your guests will be talking about for years.
And if it’s drama you’re after, we’d recommend a wow-factor venue such as Titanic Belfast or the restored 17
th century Smock Alley Theatre along the banks of the River Liffey in Dublin.
One thing’s for sure: you’ll be guaranteed a day to remember.
