Connemara Smokehouse is idyllically perched on the quiet Bunowen pier overlooked by the majestic peaks of the Twelve Bens. With an abundance of fresh fish available locally, John and Bridget Roberts set up Connemara Smokehouse in 1979, making it the oldest smokehouse in Connemara. Adopting centuries old traditional methods of smoking fish, they lovingly crafted a series of world famous artisan seafood products. Master artisan smoker Graham Roberts has a passion for the preservation of this ancient tradition while proudly demonstrating the art of preparing the freshest of fish to produce mouthwatering, award winning seafood products. Visitors are welcome to drop into the factory shop beside the pier and chat with one of the team to learn about what they do. Visitors may view a number of information panels with text and images, as well as a short video of the process. They also have an onsite café and gift shop which is a lovely place to get a coffee and some refreshments or lunch while enjoying stunning sea views. It is open seasonally from May through September. Connemara Smokehouse is open to the public year round except bank holidays and seasonal holidays. Smokehouse tours are available all year round by appointment. Please enquire for prices and availability.
