See what Ireland has in store for you
Out on the very edge of Europe, off the Dingle Peninsula, lie the mystical Blasket Islands, a small archipelago renowned for its storytellers. After many years of hardship, emigration and decline led to the final evacuation of the Great Blasket in 1953. The Blasket Centre through interactive exhibitions, provides an imaginative and authentic retelling of the story of The Blasket islands, and their rich heritage and unique literature. Life on the island was hard and the people survived by fishing and farming, which involved an everyday struggle against the elements. The Centre details the islands community’s existence, their language, culture, folklore, customs, and their extraordinary literary legacy which produced classics such as ‘The Islandman’, ‘Twenty Years A Growing’ and ‘Peig’. The Centre is a Wild Atlantic Way Signature Discovery Point and a highlight of any visit to the Dingle Peninsula. The site incorporates a fully accessible clifftop viewing platform that offers dramatic views of the Blasket Islands and the Atlantic coastline.
