Banna Strand is an extensive sandy beach located 7km north of Tralee Town. It has an extensive dune system which is protected and is a designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The beach lies within the Akeragh, Banna and Barrow Harbour SAC and proposed Natural Heritage Area (pNHA) as well as the Magharee Islands SAC and Tralee Bay Complex Special Protection Area (SPA). Banna Strand has a place in Irish history for its ill fated landing of arms by the executed Sir Roger Casement in the run-up to the 1916 Easter rebellion. The beach is lifeguarded during the bathing season and more information can be found on the notice board located at the beach.
