Reek Tours are designed to let you experience one of the world’s most beautiful areas using ancient trails, offering guided hiking and cycling tours that will reveal Irish heritage and the deep history that sweeps across Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay.
Reek Tours are led by a guide with knowledge of the history, archaeology, mythology and geography of the Reek and the islands of Clew Bay.
Apart from the rugged Atlantic beauty that has made this part of the world so famous, there is much that can be learned about Ireland’s colourful past on a Reek Tour, including:
•Tales of the Islands - From the Pirate Queen to John Lennon
•The History of the Reek – from Pagan Chieftains to Saint Patrick
•The Impact of the Great Famine on the area around Croagh Patrick
•The Archaeological Riches of the Reek – from the Bronze to the Iron Ages
•The effects of the Ice Age – the unique geography of Clew Bay
•The ancient trails and heritage sites that are found throughout the west.
From Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holiest mountain, known locally as the 'Reek' to 'John Lennon's Island' of Dorinish, to Clare Island, home of the 'Pirate Queen', the wild Atlantic splendour of Clew Bay and its surroundings draws visitors from around the world to this remote area on the western edge of Europe. Our goal is to impart this local knowledge to you while you enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the west of Ireland.
Depending on which tour you chose, our trip can include visits to one or more of the following:
