Services offered by the library include PCs with Internet access, photocopying and printing facilities, LexisNexis, Vision-Net, and FAS computer courses. Additionally, there are adult and children’s lending sections, study areas, a local history section, local and national newspapers. Language courses and an adult literacy collection are also offered.

Kilkenny City Library is home to a local studies department that works to preserve and enhance the collective memory of Kilkenny City and County. Offering access to the history and heritage of County Kilkenny, the department continuously collects, catalogues and preserves all types of Kilkenny-related material.
