Located in the Irishtown area of Kilkenny City, St Canice’s Cathedral dates back to 1285 and has a rich history for visitors to explore. The 30 metres high round tower also affords stunning 360 degree views of the region.
The Augustinians established St John’s Priory in Kilkenny City in the 1200s. Much of the structure was left in ruins after the suppression of the 15th century, though the Lady’s Chapel continues to be used for Church of Ireland services.
St Mary’s is a gothic revival-style Catholic cathedral that dominates the skyline of Kilkenny City. William Deane Butler designed the impressive house of worship taking inspiration from Norman architecture. It was completed in 1849.
