The Beach Boys need little introduction. They are one of the musical groups who helped define the sound of not just 1960s, but the entirety of the 20th century.
The Beach Boys need little introduction. They are one of the musical groups who helped define the sound of not just 1960s, but of the entirety of the 20th century.
Their sound had its roots initially in the acapella music of glee clubs in American high schools, mixed with the music surf musicians like Dick Dale, and R’n’B artists like Chuck Berry.
Led musically by the erstwhile Brian Wilson, the band synthesised those influences into something unique and beautiful that captured the imagination in America, Britain and beyond. Wilson’s music developed in strange and unexpected ways before he eventually left the band for health reasons.
The current line-up of the Beach Boys is led by Mike Love and features bassist Bruce Johnston who played with the band since the mid-1960s and will be very much focused on the nostalgia-rooted side of the Beach Boys.
Expect classic hits like California Girls, Surfin’ USA, and Little Surfer Girl on this journey back to an idealised past in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.
