Dooagh Day is based around the Currach Racing which are the feature event of the day.
Dooagh Day was established in 2015 to celebrate that the village and its remarkable heritage. Dooagh Day is based around the Currach Racing which are the feature event of the day. There are men’s and women’s events for teams of two.
The races were traditionally run each year until the 1980s when the traditions began to die out. The currach races are both incredible physical feats and a sight to behold for those watching on the bay.
There's lots of entertainment to go along with the currach races, including a rubber duck race, a load of activities for kids like face-painting and a bouncy castle, live music, exhibitions of photography and artefacts from the area, and a performance from the Dooagh Pipe Band.
This special day revives many of the great traditions of Achill, and make for a wonderful excuse to travel out to the far west of Connemara this summer.
