Glenmalure is a rustic mountain lodge steeped in the past and nestled in the heart of a remote valley surrounded by mountains. The back to basics atmosphere of this hostel is far removed from modern life and offers peace and serenity to those who seek it.

Glenmalure Youth Hostel in County Wicklow has an interesting past. In its early years, the mountain lodge was a holiday home to key Irish historical figures such as Countess Markievicz, WB Yeats, Maud Gonne and Padraig Pearse. It was lovingly restored and is managed by local volunteers who look after it and keep the kettle boiling for visitors.

The Hostel has no electricity, no phone signal or no running water, except for the Avonbeg River flowing beside it. This only adds to the attraction. Based close to Lugnaquilla Mountain, this hostel is only for the true nature lover and the most adventurous Hosteller. It is perfect for hiking, people who want a digital detox or those who just want to take in the unspoiled beauty of Wicklow.

Despite its remoteness and characteristics, it is a place that is experienced by few and returned to by many.
