Portaferry Visitor Information Centre is situated beside Portaferry Castle, a 16th century tower house overlooking scenic Strangford Lough and a few minute’s walk from the town centre. The Castle was built by the Savage family to guard the entrance to Strangford Lough, a unique and wonderful place of immense international importance for nature conservation.
Portaferry is home to Exploris aquarium and is well known for the annual Gala Week Float Parade. It has its own small Marina, the Portaferry Marina. The Portaferry - Strangford Ferry service (just below the VIC), operates regularly throughout the day between the villages of Portaferry and Strangford, less than a mile apart.

The Stables within the centre explores the history of the area from the Vikings and Normans to the influence of the Ulster Scots. The Saddlery room gives kids a fun space to get creative with arts and games.
The Centre is also home to the Loft Gallery and the established “Art in the Loft” exhibition series showcasing the work of local artists, craftspeople and makers from the Borough and beyond. This series changes on a monthly basis while the centre is open.
During July and August, the centre hosts a range of family fun activities each Saturday afternoon so come along and join in the fun for free and spend quality time together.
