The Urban Triangle Tour explores Kilkenny City, Wexford Town, Waterford City and back to Kilkenny. A distance 180km. (112 miles) approximately. This tour takes in some of the most beautiful countryside in the southeast.

The Urban Triangle not only takes in some of the most beautiful countryside in the southeast, it also provides a tantalising taste of the urban buzz on offer in Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny.
Heading east out of Kilkenny City (via R700), you’ll pass through charming villages such as Bennettsbridge, Thomastown and Inistioge.
In New Ross, travel back in time at the Dunbrody Experience, where costumed actors and a three-masted barque combine in an interactive adventure evoking famine times. Also worth visiting are The Ros Tapestry The Kennedy Homestead and JFK Arboretum.
Follow the N25 back to Wexford and enroute travel back in time at The Irish National Heritage Park, Ferrycarrig Wexford itself is full of surprises. The combination of tight-knit streets and airy waterfront, of old town walls and modern eateries, and skyline views from its state-of-the-art Opera House, create the unique feeling of a medieval town in the 21st century.
Head to Waterford City (via R733).
The Passage East ferry is the highlight of this stretch, with tickets issued from a vintage machine on the ferryman’s belt, and views stretching south to the Hook Lighthouse.
Waterford is Ireland’s oldest city, and you can explore its roots in the Viking Triangle, a new historic quarter housing the Waterford Crystal, the Medieval Museum, (Bishop’s Palace & Gardens and Reginald’s Tower. Return to Kilkenny via the M9 Motorway.
