Coolavokig Pottery of Macroom, County Cork exclusively produces wood fired stoneware ceramics including one off sculptures, kitchenware and pieces to decorate the home.
Coolavokig Pottery is located on the N22 (Cork-Killarney Road) about 50 km from Cork City, 40 km from Killarney and 10 km Macroom.
At the pottery workshop Robb Bradstock and Meredith Flandreau make high-quality ceramics fired in their wood kiln. All the pottery is thrown on a potter's wheel, giving each piece an individual quality which is further enhanced by the wood firing process.
Coolavokig produces a comprehensive range of hand-crafted/handmade domestic pottery using designs and glaze colours that have evolved over the years. The results from wood firing give all the work a distinctive character. Unglazed surfaces have a toasted bronze look which is often accentuated by intricate hand-carved decoration. Glazed surfaces have subtle and beautiful variations depending on position and time fired in the kiln.
However, attention is given to balancing practicality with aesthetically pleasing forms and all pieces are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. There is a large selection of pottery available in the retail shop and also several one of kind sculptural pieces. Included in the range are jugs, tea pots, mugs, plates, bathroom sets, vases, candle sticks and jewellery boxes.
Near the pottery, Macroom is a market town located in a valley on the River Sullane, a tributary of the River Lee. It is one of the key gateways to the tourist region of West Cork. Not to be missed is a walk on any of the nearby beaches of West Cork. Walking breaks are popular in the nearby Lee Valley, West Cork and Kerry. Other beautiful places nearby are Ballyvourney, Gougane Barra, and the Múscraí Gaeltacht.
