Ardroe Cottage is a traditional thatched cottage located on the scenic Fanad Peninsula of Donegal. Situated close to beautiful beaches and golf links. The facilities include a traditional Irish kitchen, sitting room, and a large garden.
This traditional Donegal cottage has been restored to its former glory as an Irish thatched cottage, retaining every detail of its original design, yet with modern comforts discreetly integrated to make guests' stay more enjoyable. Set back from the roadway, entry to the cottage is through a hedged laneway with rambling roses. The laneway will lead guests to Ardroe Cottage with its thatched roof and a half door.
The original Irish kitchen features a stone-flagged floor and an open fire. The cottage is traditionally-furnished with an antique dresser of century-old earthenware delph, a butter churn, a spinning wheel, and old-style long table. The glow from the turf fire adds to the warmth of the welcome.
The main double bedroom upstairs has a charm and beauty all of its own, with a coved ceiling and arched doorway, all in natural pine. The second double bedroom is situated above the fireplace, with small panelled windows. Ardroe Cottage also has its own charming and tree-sheltered gardens, and containing garden furniture. This traditional thatched Irish cottage is located in a peaceful rural setting of unspoilt countryside, convenient to several beautiful sandy beaches, lakes, mountains, hills, and the rugged Atlantic cliff coastline. Ardroe Cottage is close to the small hamlet of Portsalon, with its 18-hole golf links and the stunning blue flag Ballymastocker beach.
The owner will greet you on arrival and any special requirements will be catered for as best as possible. Bed linen, towels, and fuel for the open fire is supplied.
Ardroe Cottage is featured in Alistair Sawdays ‘Special Places to Stay'.
