Maranatha is a beautiful period country house set in its own private parkland in Blarney, County Cork. It offers large romantic bedrooms ornately and eccentrically decorated overlooking the Irish countryside.
Your hosts, Douglas and Olwen Venn, have created an extraordinary Country House B&B which is minutes from Blarney and only ten minutes from Cork City.
Each room at Maranatha is uniquely inspired by Olwen’s daring designs. Centred around large four-poster or king size ornate beds the rooms are decorated like fantasies: one based on a the, 'Top Hat' theme from the 1945 Movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers while another guest room is draped in regal style with deep burgundy velvet drapes and an enormous crown above the bed. All of the guest rooms have to seen to be believed.
Each room has its own private bathroom, central heating, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and WiFi access.
Breakfast is served in the flower filled conservatory. It includes a buffet of cereals, cheeses, yogurts, hot scones, croissants and brown bread topped off with berries, fresh whipped cream and a fresh fruit salad - not mention the traditional hot Irish breakfast of bacon, eggs, sausages and tomatoes.
The house is surrounded by a wide variety of trees and bushes from various countries including monkey puzzle, Chilean Flame, California Redwood and Monterrey Pine trees and rhododendrons. You can stroll through the beautiful private woodlands and meadows surrounding this lovely period country house.
Maranatha Country House is only 2km from the world famous town of Blarney, one of the few villages in Ireland with a well preserved village square that today continues to be a focal point of village life. In Tudor style, the village has developed around the square which is owned and carefully maintained by Blarney Castle Estate. The main reason that so many people visit Blarney, however, is to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone, high up on the battlements at Blarney Castle. Tradition holds that those who kiss the Blarney Stone will be endowed with the gift of eloquence or as the locals would say, ‘the gift of the gab’!
