Enjoy meeting the Food Producer on the day trip with Dorothy, a locally based Faílte Ireland trained Guide in Patrick's luxury minibus, she promises relaxation, comfort, great free food, beer tastings with great humour.
Tour and Taste with Lee Valley Taste Trails: There are many beautiful sites to flavour and savour on a leisurely drive through the South west region of the River Lee Valley. Having a private guide with local knowledge like Dorothy, a lady born and bred near the Loch Allua lakeside will make your visit so much more fun, interesting and personal. There are 2 distinctive trails that Dorothy has devised with visitors (or" strangers" as the Irish say) in mind.
Both trails encompass 1. The many diverse Food/Beer Producers in the valley. 2. The Bi-lingual Culture of the Mhúscraí Gaeltacht which the little black bus drives through, don't worry, lots of stops planned en route, with spectacular views of the local Heritage sites to enjoy.
Here’s a sample of the Tour Itinerary for the South West Buffaloes trail. Tuesday mornings depart from Macroom Castle Hotel reception at 9am and return at 4pm:
We begin with a stroll and chat about the history of Macroom Town Square and meet some producers on the Tuesday farmer's market day. We set off here with Patrick and his small but perfectly formed Mini Bus to "Walk on Water" by visiting the Gearagh Nature Reserve on the River Lee followed by a short drive to Johnny Lynch's Macroom Buffalo Farm. This tour is private to the group. The incredibly historic dairy water buffaloes species here were introduced to Ireland on this farm in 2009, are a sight to behold. They love our Irish weather.....Who Knew!!
A free tastings of delicious Macroom Buffalo Cheese is provided here. Picnic lunches can be pre booked to have in Inchigeela as we visit the Store of Memories Museum here for brown bread demo by Chef Dorothy. A pub lunch of local producer's board is also available from Martin in Shorten's Pub in Ballingeary as we head to Gougane Barra National Park (source of the Lee) and St Finbarr's Oratory Island. Back to Macroom with all the local news as we say at 4pm.
Tour & Taste 2 on Fridays is called “Taste our Stored Sunshine” includes private visits of Walton’s Stoneground Wholemeal Mills and 9 White Deer Craft Brewery!
