Cúrtrekkers is a social enterprise which organises single and multi-day hikes in the Wicklow Mountains. All profits are donated to Focus Ireland, an Irish charity working with homeless individuals and families.
The Wicklow Mountains provide the backdrop for the excursions. From Glendalough to some of Ireland’s less well known sites, the visitor can hope to re-discover Ireland’s wilder side on routes that have been walked for centuries and camp in some of Ireland’s landscapes.
Cúrtrekkers was inspired by Quetzaltrekkers, an NGO and social enterprise founded in 1995 in Xela, Guatemala. From there, further branches were opened in León, Nicaragua, Sucre, Bolivia (called Condortrekkers) and in Sydney, Australia (called Emutrekkers).
Each branch remains distinctly independent from the rest but each is characterised by two main characteristics, a love of the outdoors and a commitment to social solidarity. With this in mind, Cúrtrekkers was established in Dublin by two former volunteers of Quetzaltrekkers in Nicaragua.
All profits will be donated to Focus Ireland, one of the charities which work on the issue of homelessness in Ireland.
