Cave's career stretches back to late 1970s Melbourne where he formed the anarchic post-punk band called The Boys Next Door, who became more famous when they changed their name to The Birthday Party. The band relocated to London in 1980, and to West Berlin in 1983 before breaking up shortly afterwards. Cave formed The Bad Seeds from the wreckage, taking with him multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey who remained Cave’s musical right-hand-man until 2010.

For the last 35 years Cave has released albums of gothic and literate music steeped in rock'n'roll, that has been at times raucous and at others solemn, but always excellent. From the blistering mayhem of The Mercy Seat — later covered by Johnny Cash — to the delicate balladry of (Are You) The One I’ve Been Waiting For?, Cave’s songwriting has remained elegant and powerful.

In 2017, Nick Cave appeared at a short run of open questions and answers session in the United States. Having enjoyed the experience, he is now bringing this format to Dublin ahead of his performance at Royal Hospital Kilmainham, with attendees able to ask to man himself practically anything they care to.
