The Bay Leaf is situated in Horkans 5* Garden Centre, Turlough, Castlebar, Co Mayo. The Bay Leaf is a restaurant, cafe and bakery.
Ivan Carroll whose family has a long history in the local catering industry has built up the business since its opening in 2010 and now finds itself as one of the premier dining experiences in the locality.
Only 20 minutes from Ireland West Airport, the Bay Leaf is the ideal place for dining before departing on summer holidays and when you return sun burnt & in need of a proper FULL IRISH! Car parking is never an issue and patrons are always offered a warm welcome.
Outdoor & home dining is also catered for, with a full range of menus on offer for all types of family occasions. Our specialty is Communion & Confirmation functions, where we provide “ready to serve” dishes that will cater to all tastes. No booking is too big or too small with quality and value for money guaranteed.
Our bakery is an integral part of our business. Fresh scones, breads and cakes are available daily for consumption in the newly decorated 130 seater restaurant or on our patio area centered in the main outdoor part of the garden centre which is very popular during the summer months.
Our cakes and freshly made desserts including fresh fruit pavlova, banoffi pie and whatever flavour cheesecake you care to mention must be seen to be believed. Restaurant style confectionary is also available with all orders produced uniquely on the day of collection.
We also welcome school tours, coach parties & active retirement groups whether it’s just to have a quick coffee or to have something slightly more substantial. We find that our personal service is unique to the area and the relaxing environment of our restaurant situated in the heart of the award winning garden centre must be seen to be believed.
The Bay Leaf Cookery School offers two cookery courses in the early spring & autumn. COME DINE WITH ME covers all you need to know about how to entertain your friends when they come over for dinner, whether expecting finger for or a gala dinner with a range of continental cuisine. BASIC COOKERY is for first time Gordon Ramseys who just can’t get passed cheese on toast! The setting is in our restaurant kitchen under the guidance of our head chef; Barry Ralph.
