The Left Bank Bistro was established 1995, it is a modern restaurant, situated in the heart of old Athlone, Co. Westmeath, a stone's throw from the Athlone Lock on the river Shannon, with views of the Norman castle and its ancient architecture.
Left Bank Bistro has been named a 2012 Fodor’s Choice property by Fodor’s Travel. To quote from Fodor's, "each year our expert team of writers and editors designates an exclusive list of restaurants and hotels as the best of the best in their region."
The food is exciting and innovative and happy to say that some of our dishes are long term favourites of our local customers in Athlone. Choose from our lunch, dinner, dessert and fish menu and also a new early bird menu is from 5pm to 7pm on Saturdays and Tuesday to Friday it runs all night. We also cater for gluten free. Bruschetta of melted brie with apple and cranberry compote, oven roasted rack of Irish lamb and celeriac gratain topped with mint dressing, accompained by Mississippi mud pie, will take you on a food journey to mouth watering bliss and beyond!
Morning café 10.30am, lunch 12 noon until 5pm and dinner from 5pm. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
The River Shannon and Lough Ree offer wonderful leisure possibilities for all ages. There are many superb golf courses, great horse riding opportunities, country walks and historical attractions both in Athlone itself and in the surrounding area. Our lively neighbourhood, on the west side of the Shannon, has been transformed inrecent years to its former glory, embracing traditional architecture, thus creating an ambient atmosphere in sympathetic surroundings. We are proud neighbours of 'Sean's Bar', Ireland's oldest public house, many top boutiques, antique shops, old book shop and book binders.
