For over 50 years, Westport House has been the home of family fun in the beautiful West of Ireland. With something for all ages – toddlers to grand-parents – it truly captures your imagination. The beauty of the house itself and its stunning interior is complimented by its natural parkland and Lakeland setting bringing a blissful calm to all members of the clan. The Pirate Adventure Park is sure to keep the little tykes entertained with its range of rides, slides, boats and trains and the Adventure Activity Centre provides milder to wilder activities for 6 year olds and up! The brand-new Westport Train Tour which starts and finishes its heritage town tour is loved by all ages too. Couple this with its proximity and connection to Westport town as well as a fascinating story that goes back to Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen of Connaught, and you certainly won’t be left wondering why Westport House has been voted the Best Family Visitor Attraction in the West for 3 years in a row!

The ‘big house’ has been on this site since the 1500’s, when Grace O’Malley, the famous Pirate Queen, built one of her castles here. The current house – built in 1730 by her descendants and the same family who still own and operate it today - has an abundance of artefacts, artwork and treasures. Learn all about the Browne family through 30 stunning rooms and 6 permanent exhibitions – don’t miss out on the brand new exhibition telling of the family’s efforts to help their tenants during the Great Famine. After soaking up the beautiful interiors, take a stroll around the beautiful gardens and enjoy the riverside walk, Spanish armada cannons, famine pots or the sun house.

If you have children under twelve, you have to create family memories that you’ll treasure forever with a visit to the Pirate Adventure Park. Named after the famous pirate queen of Connaught, Grace O’Malley, a day pass to Westport House & Pirate Adventure Park provides unlimited use of the rides and attractions all day long. Enjoy rides such as the Cannonball Run slide, Pirates Swinging Ship and Pirates Plunge log flume ride - the only one of its kind in Ireland! Paddle yourself fit on the Giant Swan Pedalo Boats on the lake or take a turn on the Bouncy Castle. Go Karting and the Westport House Express are ideally suited to the littler ones. Enjoy some fresh air while you give Table Tennis a whirl or visit the Pirates Playground or indoor soft play.

When you’re ready to take a little relaxation, please join us on the brand new Westport Train Tour for a 1 hour sightseeing tour of historic Westport town and Quay and immerse yourself in a fun, yet fact-filled journey. Pick up the train at any one of multiple stops in Westport House, town centre or Quay and learn about 46 sights in the beautiful heritage town.

With something for everyone in the family, its no wonder it has been voted “Best Family Visitor Attraction” in the West four times!
