Battle of the Boyne - Oldbridge Estate
The Battle of the Boyne between King William III and his father - in - law, King James II, was fought on 1 July 1690 ( 11th of July according to our modern calendar ). Both kings commanded their armies in person. William had 36,000 men and James had 25,000, the largest number of troops ever deployed on an Irish battlefield. At stake were the British throne, French dominance in Europe and religious power in Ireland.
- Directions:
- From Drogheda take the Slane / Drogheda road. From Bru na Boinne follow signs for Donore or Slane and find us close to Obelisk Bridge. Please note that coaches must access the centre from the Donore road, which can be found from junction 9 of the M1.
- Admission Prices:
- Free admission to parklands and battle site walkways Visitor centre: adults €4 Group / senior €3 Child €2 Family €10
- Recommended clothing:
- Visitors are advised to wear footwear suitable for uneven terrain
- Visitor centre:
- The centre is self guiding. Groups of 10, or more, must pre -book. Living history events have a duration of between 15 and 20 minutes. Every Sunday from June to September

- Restricted access for visitors with disabilities
- Opening times:
- March – April: daily 9.30am – 5.30pm | May – September: daily 10am – 6pm | October – February: daily 9am – 5pm. Last admission is 1 hour before closing
- Facilities:
- Guided tour, restricted access, toilets, toilets for visitors with disabilities, nature walks / trails, exhibition, car / coach park and picnic area. Audio visual available in Irish, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Laser battlefield model, original and replica 17th Century weaponry and tea pavillion
