Blarney Castle is one of Ireland's most popular tourist attractions. It was built nearly six hundred years ago by one of Ireland’s greatest chieftains, Cormac MacCarthy, and is reputed to bestow the gift of the gab upon anyone who kisses the legendary Stone of Eloquence, found at the top of the Tower. Kiss it and you’ll never again be lost for words.
A number of American presidents, world leaders, and international entertainers have all kissed the stone. Surrounding the castle are extensive gardens with several short walks, some interesting natural rock formations and Blarney House, a Scottish baronial-style mansion built in the grounds in 1874.
