5 of the best attractions in Derry

Derry city and its surroundings have a long, checkered past. The site of the Bloody Sunday incident in 1972, Derry is the second biggest city in Northern Ireland and the fourth largest on the island. It is less modern than its neighbour Belfast, but it is incredibly historically significant and beautiful. Perched on the banks of the River Foyle, Derry is surrounded by a beautiful old stone wall, and expands across both banks of the river (Cityside and Waterside). With two large shopping centres, plenty of welcoming pubs and lots of beautiful architecture to admire, international and southern visitors sometimes overlook Derry for a break, but to do so would be missing out on a real gem of the North. Here are five of the best attractions in Derry.
