Investigating the plight of endangered species

It is your job to research and reflect as much as possible on the issue of endangered species to create an interesting and informative report for the rest of the class.

What to do:

Organise yourselves into pairs.

You will need the following to carry out your project:

  • pen
  • paper
  • internet

Before you begin the report, discuss briefly the topic of endangered species with your partner and record your comments.

There are four main jobs:

Part 1: Identify what it means for a species to be endangered.

Here are some websites to help you do this:

Part 2: List and group endangered species. Make a list of the animals you know that are endangered. Group the endangered species you find in a table, with separate columns for mammals, birds and fish.

Part 3: Research one particular endangered species that interests you from the list below (a starting point could be the websites mentioned).

Include information regarding habitat, eating habits, how they are endangered etc.

1) Blue whale

2) Giant panda

3) Gorilla

4) Siberian tiger

5) Bald eagle

Part 4: Conclude with ideas about what could be done to help endangered species.

Imagine, up to 100 species become extinct every day - that's 100 different types of animals that will never be seen alive on earth again.

Try to do your bit for endangered animals to prevent them from becoming extinct. Let people know about endangered species.

All you have to do is spread the word!
