Lip Service
As the autumn is upon us, the winds are turning colder and our lips once again take the brunt of the chilly breezes so we really ought to show them some love. They’re hard-working, fun-loving, essential to smiling, kissing, eating, talking.
And what would makeup be without a place for luscious lip colour? So we’ve rounded up some of the best lip salves out there to make sure there is never a crack in your simper.
Clinique All About Lips €23.50
This gives the lips (and the skin around them) a smoother, less lined appearance. Containing a light exfoliating treatment, it takes off flakey and dead skin. This formula also contains anti-oxidants to help protect against environmental damage. Overall lips do feel softer with a smoother surface for applying colour. www.clinique.co.uk.
Clarins Extra Firming Lip Balm €39.18
Coming in a glass pot means this may not be as portable as others but it certainly packs a sucker punch. The formula is rich and uber moisturising, your lips do feel softer and plumper after application. The light hints of the Star Anis, spicy Cardamom, Cinnamon and Vanilla means it tastes pretty sweet too.
Crème de la Mer Lip Balm €58
The big daddy in terms of price, this is about as great a treat as you can give your smacker. Delivering a potent concentration of Crème de la Mer's original ‘Miracle Broth’ with marine extracts, botanicals and vitamins, it goes to work on the delicate lip skin. The added bonus is that very little reapplication is needed, and it keeps working through the night, leaving you grinning from ear to ear.
Benefit Dr. Feelgood’s Lipscription €35
Benefit’s balm has the novel approach of a double tube, one exfoliates, while the other smoothes and moisturises. This does help to get rid of dead skin and leaves a clean, level playing field for you to go ahead and apply your favourite lippie.
Philosophy Kiss Me €12.25
Kiss Me is a high density lip salve for super smoothing, softening benefits. With kiwi, Vitamin E and sweet almond, it comes in natural and in pink. www.hqhair.com
La Roche Posay Nutritic Lips €7
A good option for winter lips as it has good strong UVA/UVB filters to prevent chapping and cold-sores. This uses Ceramide 5, which reinforces the cells beneath the skins surface to prevent chapping, thinness with biolipids for giving a big moisture boost. Also recommended for sensitive skins.
Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Lip Balm €21
Elizabeth Arden's renowned Eight Hour Cream also comes in this lip balm form and so contains the 8-hour cream’s key ingredients of skin soothing petrolatum, salicylic acid for skin healing and vitamin E. In addition it is enriched with emollients, protective sunscreen of SPF 15 and shields against UV exposure. One of the biggest high end sellers, and one of the best.
Trilogy Intensive Lip Treatment €12.95
Containing 70 per cent of the amazingly moisturising Rosehip Oil along with Carrot oil, Jojoba and Castor Oils, Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Sage, Rosemary and Peppermint. The Rosehip and Carrot Oils rejuvenate, repair and restore chapped lips while the Jojoba and Castor Oils are the softening, protective and soothing elements.
