Tonight's laugh-a-minute episode of this fun-filled classic comedy series, entitled The One Where No-One Proposes, is the first instalment of the ninth and penultimate season of the show, and begins where the eighth series ended. Rachel mistakenly thought that Joey was proposing to her while in fact he had no intention to do anything of the sort. He is now faced with the rather awkward task of telling the emotional new mother that he is not really that keen on the idea of getting married, but struggles to find time alone with her to have this serious discussion.

Meanwhile, Chandler and Monica are still set on their mission to make a baby, taking every possible opportunity to try their luck. This becomes a particularly unfortunate and uncomfortable fact for Monica's father, Mr Gellar (played by television legend Elliott Gould), who catches the pair in a compromising position in the janitor's storeroom.
