Poll / Reaction / Verdict

Has the lack of Irish and British riders in this year’s Tour de France detracted from your enjoyment of the race?

The Poll so far...
35% YES
65% NO

Your reaction...

No way! I thought this was a great tour. The batles between armstrong and pantani were the highlight but as a whole i thought it was compelling. Maybe next year the Irish and British viewers will have some more riders to cheer.
Jimmy, Switzerland

Have to say, Armstrong is a hero. Not just a comprehensive win of the Tour, but off the back of a bad dose of cancer. To top it off he’s from Texas, where cycling must be a capitol offence in your average Texan’s eyes.
Liam, Australia

Not at all. It would be great to have Irish riders in the tour again but the tour is one of the most exciting sports events in the world, regardless of who is riding.
Donal Dowling, Ireland

The tour this year was a classic. Every day we had a great stage from millar to Zannini. Armstrong losing the plot on the road to Morzine. Fantastic. What about the Vino v Commesso sprint perfect. With our sport leading the fight against doping we should be quite happy that it was as clean as could be. The retrospective EPO tests had a lot to do with this I believe. Vive la Tour ( and the Ras!)
morana, Ireland

wonderful race, was glad to see the high level of competition from the sprinters, climbers and long distance racers. Hated to see Pantani drop and Millar fall early in the race. Hoped Ullrich would do better.
Robert Moore, United States

It was an excellent tour this year, and with up and coming young cyclists doing so well, we can expect more in the future.
Olive, Ireland

a brillant tour and a great winner a pity we had no great challenger but then was armstrong just to good.
michael mc kenna, Ireland

It was not as exciting as the days of who can pull back the seconds and beat the clock, each day the leader struggled to hang on to the yellow jersey e.g. Lemond, Delgado, Induran, Anderson, Yates, Hampston, Bauer, Feynon, Kelly, Roche and many more tough riders....
Marcus, Ireland

It was great a great battle covered excellently by eurosport.
Richie Kennedy, Ireland

It just shows us how much we took for granted what Kelly,Roche,Early and Kimmage were doing in the big races a few years back. It is a terrible shame that a lot of more younger riders didn't follow them over to the pro ranks.
Tony Mc Dowell, Ireland
