Guy Bates, who scored on his debut last week, scored the only goal of the game in the first minute, a strike that proved good enough to inflict a first domestic defeat on Derry since John Robertson took charge in July.

Longford Town remain rooted to the foot of the table, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Cork City keeping them behind Waterford United.
