The spiritual home of French rugby is still one of the sport’s great arenas and one where Ireland will face Argentina in the last game of Pool D. The space was originally a private woodland where princes could do whatever it is princes do for fun.

Napolean III put an end to that when he turned it over to the City of Paris and a velodrome was built to house 20,000 spectators in 1897. A playing field for both rugby and soccer was added in 1931 and the capacity was raised to the current total

The French rugby team played its home matches there from 1973 until 1998, when the Stade de France in nearby Saint-Denis took over as the national stadium. It has been the home of Paris Saint-Germain football club, while Top 14 side Stade Francais grace the arena on big occasions.

Five matches will be staged here during the World Cup, the pick of the bunch being the aforementioned meeting of Eddie O'Sullivan's side and the Pumas clash. The bronze medal decider will also be player in the Parc on October 19th.
