Jimmy White - (© Allsport) Jimmy White

World Ranking: 16
Date of Birth: 02/05/62
Resides: Oxshott, Surrey, England.
Turned Professional: 1980

Jimmy White has won the Irish Masters tournament twice. The first occasion The Whirlwind lifted the trophy was in 1995 when he defeated Alex Higgins. The following year, White beat Willie Thorne at the Goffs arena.

Jimmy White's most notable tournament performance this season came at the Regal Welsh Open where he was beaten by just one frame in the semi-final against Stephen Lee. White has defeated some high profile players this term. Ronnie O'Sullivan fell to White at the Welsh Open and John Higgins was defeated by the 38-year-old at the B&H Masters which took place at Wembley.

Unfortunately for Jimmy White there is a sad statistic that cannot go unmentioned. He has never won the World Championship. He has appeared in the final of that tournament a remarkable six times, yet he has lost every time. Four of those defeats came against Stephen Hendry.

Since turning professional in 1980, Jimmy White has won nine ranking tournaments and several invitationals.

White will play world number one John Higgins in Friday's second round.
