Alan McManus is having a dismal season so far. The 29-year-old has been falling out of tournaments at the early stages on regular occasions. His best performance saw him reach the quarter-finals of the British Open where he lost to Joe Swail, a player ranked twenty positions below him.
This is in stark contrast to the period when McManus first turned pro. In his initial season, McManus reached the last 16 of the World Championship and was named WPBSA Young Player of the Year. In the next two seasons he reached the semi-final stages of that tournament.
Alan McManus has won just two ranking events in his career: the 1994 Dubai Duty Free Classic and the 1996 Thailand Open.
The world number 8 has reached two Irish Masters finals in the past. He was defeated in both by Steve Davis.
Having disposed of Fergal O'Brien in the 1st round, McManus will now face fellow Scot Stephen Hendry.
