John Higgins - (© Allsport) John Higgins

World Ranking: 1
Date of Birth: 18/5/75
Resides: Wishaw, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Turned Professional: 1992

John Higgins has reached three tournament finals already this season. Although he lost in the final of the Regal Scottish Masters, the Wizard of Wishaw has won both the Grand Prix in Preston, and the Regal Welsh Open.

The young Scot became widely noticed in the 1994/95 season when he became the first teenager to win three ranking events in one season.

Higgins won the World Championship in 1998, beating Ireland's Ken Doherty by 18-12 in the final. He remarkably scored 14 centuries in that tournament, the first player to do so. Following those feats John Higgins was named the WPBSA's Player of the Year.

The Scottish player's best performance in an Irish Masters tournament came in 1998 when he reached the semi-final stage. He will begin this year's event with a match on Friday against Jimmy White.
