Fergal O'Brien holds a respectable ranking of eleventh in the world. The Dublin born player can credit this position to winning the British Open title in the 1998/99 season. This was O'Brien's first ranking event win.
His form this season is mixed. Among others, the Dubliner has beaten John Higgins, Jimmy White and James Wattana. Yet too many losses against lower ranked players in the major tournaments have left Fergal and his Irish fans disappointed. He achieved his best tournament performance this season, going out at the quarter-final stage of the Regal Welsh Open.
The Bayside resident begins the Irish Masters Tournament against an out of form Alan McManus.
