Ian Stanley three-putted the final green from no more than 20 feet to force a play-off with New Zealand’s Bob Charles but he redeemed himself by holding his nerve to win the Senior British Open at Royal County on the first play-off hole.

Nicklaus in touch with Stanley’s lead
Jack Nicklaus slipped himelf back into contention of the £500,000 sterling Senior British Open today courtesy of the leading contenders inability to make any real progress in the testing conditions at the Royal County Down links.
