Find your ancestorsEngland's Nick Dougherty was left to curse one nightmare hole after he had charged into the lead at the US Tour's Verizon Heritage tournament in Hilton Head today.
Seven under par and without a dropped shot in his first 32 holes, Dougherty crashed to a quadruple bogey eight on the 419-yard sixth and, having started on the back nine, eventually finished five shots off Lucas Glover's lead of 10 under.
The disaster began with a wild drive that forced him to play another ball off the tee and after pushing that into the right-hand rough he needed three more shots to make the green.
To his great credit, though, the 25-year-old from Liverpool hit back straight away with two birdies and by adding a 70 to his opening 67 was still in a share of 10th spot.
Round of the day so far went to defending champion Boo Weekley whose 64 was enough to see him finish one shot behind Glover, who carded a five-under-par 66.
A chasing pack of seven Americans and Australian Aaron Baddeley are three behind Weekley on six under.
Overnight leader Justin Leonard was among them through two holes of his second round after a birdie on the 11th.
Earlier, Justin Rose withdrew following his opening 76 because of back trouble.
