The annual celebration of our built and natural heritage began as a Council of Europe initiative 15 years ago, encouraging each member state to celebrate its cultural heritage.Ireland chose to have an annual week-long countrywide programme of events and, two years ago, the planning of these events moved from the Office of Public Works to the Heritage Council. Below is a small selection of what's on offer (many events are free).
