Tynan to leave Cork City office

CORK CITY have confirmed general manager Aidan Tynan will move on from the club "to pursue other business interests" as soon as a successor has been found.

Tynan, who was appointed after venture capital group Arkaga took control of the club last year, is said by his employers to have completed the work he was appointed to do. It is understood the company have yet to decide on the precise nature of the role his replacement might be asked to take up.

Arkaga have increased the first-team budget since replacing former manager Damien Richardson with Alan Mathews, and have signalled a desire to relocate the club to a purpose-built stadium which would be part of a larger development capable of generating commercial revenues.

A key part of Tynan's role has been to assess the viability of the project, but his relationship with members of the playing squad is said to have been strained since a dispute erupted over the payment of bonuses for winning last year's FAI Cup final.

Galway United, meanwhile, hope to appoint a new manager over the next couple of weeks after the closing date for applications passed yesterday.
